On-island support - Syrian and Iraqi crisis

In response to the Syrian and Iraqi humanitarian crisis, the Tasmanian Government committed an additional $1 million program to support the additional numbers of refugees arriving in Tasmania.

The Department of Premier and Cabinet has undertaken an extensive consultation process to identify key areas of need for all refugee families arriving in Tasmania, during their early settlement period.

Funding will be focused around enhancing services and programs to support refugees according to their priority needs identified during the consultation.

The Government acknowledges the challenges of moving to a new country and have appreciated the advice of service providers, the peak body and families, on how the Tasmanian Government can best support our new and recent arrivals on their settlement journey.

A range of services and programs is now being considered to supplement existing settlement services, and to ensure a comprehensive package of wrap–around services is in place to support families.
