Have your say about the Disability Services Act 2011 Review

Ideas are invited from the community about how to best legislate to promote the health and wellbeing of people with disability and ensure quality services.

The Disability Services Act 2011 is being reviewed to build a more equitable, inclusive and accessible state for all Tasmanians.

Meaningful participation of people with lived experiences using creative opportunities to share their ideas safely is a priority during this review.

Who should have their say?

To start the consultation, the Disability Services Act 2011 Discussion Paper has been released and contains key questions for:

  • people with disability;
  • families;
  • carers;
  • advocates;
  • support providers; and
  • the Tasmanian community.

Why is the Disability Services Act 2011 being reviewed?

The review aims to ensure the legislation is updated to:

  • reflect changes made with the implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme; and
  • meet our national and international commitments for people with disability.

How to have your say?

There are several ways you can participate in the consultation:

  • You may download the Disability Services Act 2011 (DSA) Discussion Paper or the DSA Review Easy Read version and respond. The seven discussion topics provide a good starting point for your response.
  • You can be creative as you like with your submission. It can be a:

Keeping you informed about the review

The Department of Communities Tasmania will ensure that people who provide input into the review of legislation will also have an opportunity to receive feedback on the review’s findings and the Government’s way forward.
