In partnership with the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters, the Tasmania Government is working to improve the supply, quality and use of language services in Tasmania.
The 2020 Interpreter Scholarship Program is now open for Expressions of Interest. The closing date is the 12 July 2020.
The value of each scholarship is $1000.
The cost of the course is $1400
Participant cost is $400.
The course will run over 10 weeks from 3 August 2020 until 9 October 2020.
The course will be conducted on weekdays, with some weekend workshops.
Applicants are required to meet English proficiency requirements before enrolment by undertaking a pre-course language activity. This is necessary to ensure students have the required level of English to complete the course.
Each year the program includes a range of languages that have been identified as needing more interpreters.
See below for the list of languages in demand in 2020.
- Hakha Chin and Chin dialects
In addition to proficiency in English scores and interpreting experience, the selection process will also take into account the location, gender, and language of the Scholarship applicant.
This is important in being able to ensure that Tasmanians with little or no English proficiency can obtain a credentialed interpreter as much as possible, when accessing Tasmanian Government services.
